Exploring Windows 93

Here is a page dedicated to my findings in Windows 93, which hopefully will work as a guide to your enjoyment of said site.

Let's Start!

Out of the bat there's a lot of stuff to be explored, some more complex than others, but lets not rush through them. If you're able I suggest putting it in fullscreen, just for that tad bit more of immersion.
I'll admit some of these things are not that interesting but it'd be [insert adjective later I can't think of one rn] to apply that sentiment to the whole site, so lets take a look at some applications.


HAMPSTER

Not even going to lie to you, my least favorite thing in here. Just a window you can scroll through infinitely with rows of gifs of hamster dancing while a looping song plays in the background. Too annoying and loud. Nothing else to see here


Take This

A meme thingy, every time you open the app there's the cave guy from the first zelda, saying the meme line and a random gif will show up followed by a sound effect, pretty harmless


Robby

This one is a game! It's rendered with text characters, simmilar to Candy Box 2. You play as a robber trying to rob a bank, but the police comes after you and you must find a way to escape! You're given 10 "seconds" to do so, each second passes whenever you make one choice, like moving from one room to another or picking/using something, once you're at 10 seconds the cop shoots you and you die. It's a little tricky to figure out what to do at first, but it's very fun and even funny figuring out the right path to the end.


Adobe Pizza Player™

Okay, I'm not 100% sure what it is, given I decided to open this one during class, right now. It seems to be a flash player, having folders named "games, newgrounds, requests" etc.
Opening the games folder there are various folders, opening a couple of these folders I can see that there are a thoudsand times as many games as I have time to play them in this 1 thing alone so I'll leave it to you to play them ^^. Though I'll make sure to note some if I find anything interesting.
(You'll see later on that these enormous ammount of content is common in various of these apps).
There's also an "open random file" option if you click on the files tab at the top. I did and the first thing that showed up was a guy and a leprechaun taking a piss at urinols.

Kof93

This one is a... fighting game? It's between a guy I'd guess is from street fighter and a car, control the guy with e s d f and attack with w, and the car with arrow keys and space. This is probably a joke I just don't get


Trollbox

Okay so, I've seen 3 versions of this until now, and holy shit.

1. What I think must have been the main version of this. It was a chat room, you chose a nickname and you could say whatever you want. The one time I was there I think there was a girl and a gay guy chatting, I don't remember why but I got upset at them being slightly mean for some reason, the guy gave me his reddit username at some point, and I remember seeing he liked donnie darko, which gave me weird feelings because he was mean to me but he was one of the few people I ever talked to that knew about something I really liked. But yeah mainly it was it

2. Okay I'll look up to see if I can find an image or something but as far as I remember, it was like this at least a couple of months ago, maybe even last month, but opening this program would grant a gif saying that says something like "This service has been shut down due to accusations of money laundaring, conspiracy against the goverment and copyright infringement" and there was like a seal that looked real. No idea wtf happened but I imagine something 4chan level stuff since I don't remember it having censoring, I'll link it here if I find any image of it

3. Back to 1, though there are no messages, and writing something and clicking on the send just does nothing


Maze 3D

Well, this ended very different than what I expected.

Opening this one up it's a 3D maze made up of text characters, the walls are drawn with "\ / | .", which makes everything look extremely homogenous turning the maze experience super hard but it's very simple and even makes me thing I could make something similar myself without much trouble.
The other day after a very very long break from considering coming back to this idea of a page I was in my friends house, he was having lunch and left me to mess around on his pc, so I went to Windows93 and decided why not try charting that maze out on my notebook? I started doing that and was doing good so far but after a little bit I must have messed up something because walls were clipping onto each other and I gave up, must have put half an hour onto that.
It's been about a month since that and I decided why not try again? Saturday morning at work, this time with gimp on my screen with a pixel grid I could write down and edit it a lot faster than pen and paper, and so I did.

This is what I ended up with, must have taken about two hours, at one point I did even find the exit but just didn't see it, so by the time I had charted the whole thing I was confused but then I was able to finish it. The finish itself was just a text saying something like yay you did it but what really got me interested back on the website is that after I reached the exit I got this.

Dude wtf? What do you mean password? What do you mean third password? Password to what? Where are the other passwords?
But I'll be honest with you, this isn't the first time I've seen this, the actual first time I got excited but was then left clueless for... well, until now, but that thing was:


Defrag

That was an annoying half hour

Defrag is a snake game, an 80x40 grid where you are a snake of red cells and you can eat single red cells to grow and such, you know snake.
But the detail of it is that at the bottom there is a percentage progress bar, you'd think it goes up as you eat more cells but actually, every time you walk on top of somewhere you haven't been before it changes color, so to get 100% you just have to walk on every cell, which doesn't sound that hard until you consider it has 3200 cells and every time you die it resets your progress. The most annoying part of it is the very start, the best strategy is to get the walls first since they're the hardest part so after you're done with that it gets slightly easier to avoid hitting the them.

Half an hour goes by and btw it keeps playing an annoying loop of a short tune, nothing I can recognize myself but after getting 100%, I got this.
I expected it to say "first" password or something like that, but I guess since it says nothing it's either something separate or it really is the first one. And well for now all there's left to do is find the other ones. I encourage whoever is reading this to try to find some for yourself, specially the games it has in it since it's where I found the 2 I have so far.


Brian Sweeper

I should not be awake rn

Ok so rn is 2:17 am, on a thirsday, it's a holiday "tomorrow" so I don't have to worry. Brian Sweeper is one that caught me real quick when I first came on the site, both because I like minesweeper and because it's a fucking troll. It's the exact same as minesweeper but the first square you click always has a bomb, every time, if you put flags on it on every flag there will be a bomb, if you put enough flags so that you use them all up... there will be more bombs than flags still.


I thought if I could find a way to play this somehow, maybe there would be another password here? Would be somwhat in line with the other two places I found the previous ones.

Going through the "help" optoin at the top didn't do much, just minesweeper instructions besides having the word "is" on the line "The first square you open is never a bomb." crossed out. On the "game" option there were a few things to chose, start a beginner, intermediate, expert or custom game, and "options". The only options in options was a "troll mode" that was checked, unchecking it lets you play the game normally.

I went through a beginner round to be sure, maybe figuring out how to uncheck the troll mode followed by a simple win would be enough for earning the password, I wouldn't spend much time on it either way.
I was wrong but then was ready to try another one, I went straight for expert mode. Getting this one took me a while, a few attempts over a few days, tonight was one of those days wtf am I saying and after MISSING 1 FUCKING BOMB AND THINKING IT WAS SOMEWHERE ELSE HAVING TO RESTART AGAIN I finally got it at 2:06am, what I got was this.
Yes fucking nothing more than a smiling face with sunglasses... Maybe it's not here and I'll have to look somewhere else...
But then I got thinking

I still have 1 more option intermedate resulted to nothing btw, what about custom mode? clicking that pops up another window


First thing I did cuz I thought it was funny was try setting it to 1000 by 1, and got this


So now I'm here wondering... what if I set it to its maximum? 32 by 24... 768 total tiles, 256 bombs... Maybe that's worth something
